Matthew 24:3-14 3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all[a] these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences,[b] and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Rock Harbor Church Prophecy Update

Published on May 17, 2019

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6)
1Cor. 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: AND THAT NO MAN CAN SAY THAT JESUS IS THE LORD, BUT BY THE HOLY GHOST.
Eph. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Eph. 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
Eph. 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption

QUESTION:    I have a question about the scoffers in 2 Peter 3:2-4. Are these scoffers the folks now who tend to frown on the idea of the Rapture of the Church (just kind of generically rolling their eyes at those who are pre-trib, I guess), or are they specific to the time just before the 2nd coming, scoffing in earnest?
ANSWER:    Peter said this will be specific to the end times. These scoffers will deny the possibility of the Lord’s return based on their belief that life has always gone on without intervention from the Lord and will always continue to do so.
He said these people “deliberately forget” the fact that it was God’s intervention that caused the creation in the first place and it was His intervention that caused the flood that destroyed it. The truth is that God has periodically intervened in the affairs of man and will do so again, regardless of what these people think.
So he wasn’t speaking about people who frown on the idea of the rapture, but about those who deny the second coming altogether, and expect the world to just go on and on forever. Jesus said people from all around the earth will mourn when they see Him coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory (Matt. 24:30). They’ll mourn because they’ll finally realise they’ve been wrong and it will be too late for them to change their minds about Him.
The truth is there are more prophecies about the Lord’s Second Coming in the Bible than there were about His First Coming, and there’s absolutely no reason to believe they will remain unfulfilled. One of the clearest ones is in Acts 1:11. As the disciples were watching Jesus disappear into the sky, two men in white were suddenly standing there with them.
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

QUESTION:    A question on 2 Peter 3:3-4; who are the scoffers? Are they in the body of Christ? Do they not believe that Christ is coming back, or that he isn’t coming back soon or, that it cannot be known? The pastor at my church believes the Bible says we cannot know when the end is near, and so does not address the subject. Is he a scoffer? He does ex positional teaching from the Bible every week and does believe in the rapture, he just does not believe that current events can indicate where we are as regards to prophecy. I appreciate his avid defence of the gospel and his desire to spread the good news, but I have been discouraged by his unwillingness to address what seems obvious to me, that we are quickly approaching the return of our Lord.
ANSWER   2 Peter 3:3-4 reads;
First of all you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this coming He promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has from the beginning of creation.
For the most part, evangelical scholars believe the scoffers in 2 Peter 3 represent people who call themselves Christian but don’t believe in a literal 2nd Coming. They claim to believe in God but don’t think He intervenes in the affairs of men. This is consistent with the “watchmaker” theory of liberal Christianity. It holds that God is like a craftsman who built a complex time piece, wound it up, and then stood back to watch it run without any further involvement on His part. Peter accused them of deliberately forgetting about past judgements like the flood, the 1st Coming, and lots of other events which prove that God does intervene in human history.
Your pastor may or may not fit this description. Many pastors are taught in seminary to avoid end times prophecy since it’s controversial and could be divisive, threatening the stability of their congregation. They’re told it’s much safer to keep their flock focused on the church’s work in this world and let the next one take care of itself. Often these pastors are not even taught about prophecy and therefore don’t consider themselves to be competent to teach it to others.
Also, many denominational seminaries are officially a-millennial, which means they don’t believe in a literal fulfilment of end times prophecy. Any one of these factors could have influenced your pastor to avoid teaching prophecy. It’s sad to say, but the vast majority of believers have to learn about End Times prophecy from sources outside their church.

This is BREAKING NEWS as of 9:03 AM eastern US time on Friday, 17 May 2019 — The Kuwaiti national security council have just had an emergency meeting after briefing by US officials.
They are publicly saying “the hours and days ahead are perilous and that the risk of regional war is unacceptably high.”
They are moving to a full war footing within Kuwait, to support the USA and allies against Iran.
The current situation in the region due to rising tensions between the US and Iran, is “perilous”, head of the Kuwaiti parliament Marzouq Al Ghanem said following a crisis meeting with government officials.
He added that the government confirmed readiness to handle emergencies “in case of the eruption of a war” in the region.
Ministers of foreign affairs, trade, electricity and information explained their contingency plans at the meeting held behind closed doors.
“According to the detailed explanation given by the ministers, it has become clear how delicate, sensitive and dangerous the stage ahead and the necessity of taking all measures for all possibilities,” Al Ghanem said.
“At the foreign front, the situation is not assuring,” he added.
In recent days, tensions have mounted in the Gulf after four vessels were sabotaged off the eastern cost of the United Arab Emirates and Iran-allied Houthi militants in Yemen claimed responsibility for a drone attack on vital oil installations in Saudi Arabia.
UPDATE 9:09 AM EDT —
HAL TURNER OBSERVATION:  The Kuwaitis are VERY low-profile.  They are not given to wild statements like this, nor have their Diplomats ever used language of this nature, publicly like this.
This is VERY worrisome.

I have had conversations with three alphabet soup agency members in the past 24 hours. Just the use of the term “Operation Nitro-Zeus” will draw, for myself, some very unwanted attention. Subsequently, I am publishing the “bare bones” of this operation in order to expedite exposure and minimize interference with this important revelation.
Ron Paul has some very sound advice for the President. Namely, Ron Paul is advising the President to keep his promise with regard to avoiding foreign wars of occupation. Initially, the President is heeding the advice of Ron Paul as he is frustrating his advisors because he will not initiate Operation Nitro-Zeus.
When the President ran for office, he promised to end all foreign wars of occupation (ie Banker’s Wars). Here is a brief summation of Ron Paul’s warning to the President:
Along the same lines as the Ron Paul warning, President Trump has greatly frustrated his advisors, which are clearly loyal the war-mongering John Bolton. The President has said that he is not convince that we are ready, nor should we invade Iran. Trump’s advisors are beside themselves. Here is the story. The revelations regarding Operation Nitro-Zeus will be unveiled.
This report will shock the sensibilities of the Deep State, because this has been one of their best guarded secrets in history. This plan was initially laid out as a means to subdue any Middle Eastern nation. This plan was devised prior to 9/11 and from the three sources that I have spoken with, I am convinced this plan was devised as a major motivation for both 9/11 and what was to follow in the Middle East. The Saudi’s are complicit in this plan as they were in carrying out 9/11.
In brief, Operation Nitro-Zeus is designed as general operation that can be tailor-made to decapitate the infrastructure and defense systems of any country we are about to invade. We did it in Iraq and we have done it in Venezuela, however, in Venezuela, USA forces hit a snag and the invasion is temporarily on hold. When Venezuela is invaded, Syria and Iran, at minimum, will be hit at the same time.  As previously stated, Trump has stood down with regard to invading Iran.
From one source, there are clear indicators that a strong, and possibly well-coordinated domestic terrorist strike force is being prepared to attack the electrical grid of every American city should we invade Iran or Venezuela. The composition of these forces are part Spetsnaz and part terrorist sleeper cells. My AFSOF contact said the discovery of the ISIS training base in Alabama, by the FBI, shook Trump to his core.
In one phase of Operation Nitro-Zeus consists of Special Operations forces that will penetrate the underground storage of Iran’s nuclear arsenal. Don’t panic, Iran does not yet have the ability to strike the United States. However, they can strike Israel and this is a major concern to Trump. The expected casualty rate of this type of operation to USA forces is expected to be as high as 60-70%! I was told that it is expected that Iran will employ the use of chemical and biological weapons in defense of nuclear arsenal which explains why the USA casualty rates would be so high. Two days ago, Trump put these forces in stand-down mode. However, they can once again be operationalized within 72 hours after a stand-down.
I have more operational details that will become available as circumstances warrant. Right now, Southern Command of border personnel are on the alert for dirty bombs crossing our southern border. It is assumed that these bombs are being transported in parts to help avoid detection. In a story that I am working on right now, I know that the LEO’s at the border are apprehending 1,000 illegal aliens per day in one 12 mile long stretch across the border. How many are they not catching?
More will follow on operational details as they become available.

Paul Handley with Kyoko Hasegawa in Tokyo – AFP • May 17, 2019
Washington (AFP) – Amid rising tensions in the Gulf, Iran on Thursday rejected negotiations with the US and said it was showing “maximum restraint” after Washington sent extra military forces to the region against what it claimed was an imminent threat from Tehran.
US officials meanwhile said the deployment of an aircraft carrier strike group and B-52 bombers to the Gulf, one of the world’s most strategic waterways, was in reaction to photographs showing that Iran had loaded missiles onto small traditional boats.
In Tokyo for talks with Japanese officials, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called the US escalation “unacceptable.”
There was “no possibility” of negotiations with the United States, he told reporters. “I don’t know why President Trump is confident.”
“We exercise maximum restraint,” he said, despite the Trump administration’s unilateral move last year to withdraw from the international agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
On Wednesday, Trump predicted Iran would “soon” want to negotiate, even as the State Department ordered the evacuation of most personnel from the US embassy and consulate in Iraq, fearing an attack by Iranian-directed Shiite militias.
“I’m sure that Iran will want to talk soon,” the president tweeted.
  • Pressure to justify escalation –
The White House and Pentagon remained under pressure to demonstrate the reason for the huge buildup in forces and heightened rhetoric of the past 11 days.
Two major pro-Iran armed groups in Iraq rejected allegations that they were plotting an attack on US diplomatic installations in the country.
Nasr al-Shomari, a military commander for the Iran-backed Harakat al-Nujaba, told AFP the claim was “a pretext” by Washington to create “an uproar” in Iraq.
US coalition partners in Iraq had suggested earlier this week that the threat level there had not risen significantly, and members of Congress demanded to see the information behind the Trump administration’s warlike rhetoric.
“I think they should tell us what the hell is going on,” senior Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told CNN.
A US official said Thursday that Iranian missiles loaded on small, traditional dhow boats in the Gulf were among the new “threats” to US forces and allies in the region.
The official, who asked not to be named, confirmed a New York Times report that US intelligence had aerial photos of the vessels.
“The missiles on civilian boats are a concern,” said the official.
  • Anti-war Trump? –
The Trump administration meanwhile appeared divided on how hard of a line to take.
The deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group and the bombers was first announced on May 5 by White House National Security Advisor John Bolton.
The vocal hawk called the move “a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said days later that while the US does not seek a war with Iran, “if American interests are attacked, we will most certainly respond in an appropriate fashion.”
But The New York Times reported that Trump himself was not entirely happy with the talk of war and told acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan early Thursday that he does not want to a military clash.
Brookings Institution foreign policy analyst Tom Wright said Trump does not agree with Bolton’s hard line and advocacy of regime change in Tehran.
“Trump has always distrusted Bolton on military intervention,” Wright said.
Intelligence officials were scheduled to brief congressional leaders Thursday on the information they have that spurred the new deployments to the Gulf, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned Trump that the legislature, and not the president, has the constitutional power to declare war.
“I like what I hear from the president, that he has no appetite for this,” Pelosi said.
“One of the places that I agree with the president is in both of our opposition to the war in Iraq, and I hope that that same attitude will prevail with (Trump), even though some of his supporters are rattling sabers.”

Iranian General Tells Militias To ‘Prepare For Proxy War’
Top Iranian general tells militias to ‘prepare for proxy war’—report
Top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani has met with Iran-linked Iraqi militias in Baghdad, telling them to “prepare for proxy war,” according to a report Thursday, amid rapidly rising tensions between the Washington and Tehran.
Soleimani called the militias for a meeting three weeks ago, the UK’s Guardian newspaper reported on Thursday. It wasn’t immediately clear when the meeting actually took place.
“It wasn’t a call to arms, but it wasn’t far off,” a senior intelligence source said.
The meeting played a part in the US State Department’s decision on Wednesday to order all nonessential government staff to leave Iraq, as Germany and the Netherlands both suspended their military assistance programs in the country.
While Soleimani has regularly met with leaders of Iraqi Shia groups in recent years, this meeting stood out, the source said.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have soared in recent weeks with a war of words between American and Iranian leaderships, allegations of sabotage attacks targeting oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, a drone attack on a Saudi oil pipeline claimed by Yemen’s Iranian-allied rebels, and the dispatch of US warships and bombers to the region.
Last week, US officials said they had detected signs of Iranian preparations for potential attacks on US forces and interests in the Middle East, but Washington has not publicly provided any evidence to back up claims of an increased Iranian threat.
The New York Times reported Thursday that photographs showing Iranian missiles mounted on small boats in the Persian Gulf had led the US to dispatch the warship fleet and bombers to the region.
But the root of the recent spike in Persian Gulf tensions appears to be US President Donald Trump’s decision a year ago to pull the US from Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers, embarking on a maximalist sanctions campaign against Tehran to cripple the country’s economy.
In a speech to state officials, Khamenei said the showdown between the Islamic Republic and the United States was a test of resolve rather than a military encounter.
“This face-off is not military because there is not going to be any war. Neither we nor them [the US] seek war. They know it will not be in their interest,” he said, as quoted on the official website.
On Wednesday, however, the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps warned Tehran was on the brink of full-on conflict with its enemy.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday in Sochi, Russia: “We fundamentally do not seek a war with Iran.”
On Monday, Trump rejected a report saying he was considering sending 120,000 troops to counter Iran, but didn’t rule out deploying “a hell of a lot more” soldiers in the future.
Also on Wednesday, Iran formally dropped the limitations on uranium enrichment and the production of heavy water that were laid down in its landmark 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, an official from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran announced.

Two U.S. Warships Enter Persian Gulf Without Incident
Two U.S. guided-missile destroyers entered the Persian Gulf on Thursday without incident as the likelihood of an armed confrontation between Iran and the U.S. appears less likely, two U.S. defense officials confirmed to USNI News on Thursday.
USS McFaul (DDG-74) and USS Gonzalez (DDG-66) transited the Strait of Hormuz in the late afternoon local time without challenge from Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy (IRGCN), the sectarian military force responsible for Iran’s coastal defense and operations in the Strait of Hormuz, the defense officials confirmed.
U.S. Central Command did not provide additional details on the transit when reached by USNI News.
The transit of the two warships through the strait with no harassment from the IRGCN is a sign that tensions between Washington and Tehran have simmered since last week’s buildup of U.S. military forces in the Middle East.
As of Thursday, the Abraham Carrier Strike Group was operating off the coast of Oman while the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) was off the coast of the United Arab Emirates near the entrance to the Persian Gulf, USNI News has learned.
Earlier this week, McFaul and Kearsarge left the Persian Gulf while carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and its strike group quickly left the Mediterranean Sea and sailed swiftly through the Red Sea to the Gulf of Oman.
If the U.S. were to launch a military attack from the sea, it would best be able to do so from outside of the Persian Gulf, where Iranian forces have less maritime domain awareness and American ships would be further from hostile anti-ship missiles, USNI News understands.
The White House and the Pentagon claimed “indications of heightened Iranian readiness to conduct offensive operations against U.S. forces and our interests” as justification to move the Lincoln strike group into the Middle East earlier than planned and to deploy an Air Force bomber task group and an Army Patriot anti-ballistic missile battery to the region. Washington has also tasked amphibious warship USS Arlington (LPD-24) and elements of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to CENTCOM, even though in recent amphibious ready group deployments the LPD tends to stay in the Mediterranean even as the other ships in the group operate in CENTCOM waters.
On Wednesday, The New York Times reported the increased threat came from intelligence that showed IRGCN forces had loaded missiles onto dhows.
On Tuesday, U.K. Maj. Gen. Christopher Ghika, deputy commander for strategy and information at the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), told reporters there had been “no increased threat” to forces in Iraq and Syria supporting OIR from Iranian forces in the region, according to
In response, CENTCOM issued a statement that Ghika’s assessments “run counter to the identified credible threats available to intelligence from U.S. and allies regarding Iranian-backed forces in the region.”
The two destroyers’ transit occurred as an investigation continues into coordinated attacks of four oil tankers and an oil pipeline by forces believed by U.S. officials to be Iranian.
“The Saudi tankers were among at least four oil-industry vessels, including ships from Norway and the United Arab Emirates, attacked on Sunday in the Gulf of Oman off the U.A.E.’s eastern coast as they prepared to cross into the Persian Gulf, Saudi officials said,” reported The Wall Street Journal.
A U.S. team that includes special operations personnel were part of a group sent to determine the origin of the attacks.

Global economic activity has already been slowing down dramatically, and the U.S. trade war with China is just going to make things worse.  In so many ways, what we are witnessing in 2019 is quite reminiscent of what we witnessed as the last recession was beginning.  Global exports are absolutely plummeting, auto sales are way down all over the globe, debt delinquencies are way up, and retailers are closing stores at a record pace.  Even if the U.S. and China were getting along, things would be rough for the global economy in the months ahead, but a full-blown trade war between the two largest economies on the entire planet has the potential to be absolutely disastrous.  We are truly in uncharted waters, and many believe that events are going to start accelerating very rapidly now. The Hal Lindsey: As The Day Approaches
Just over two years ago, the Barna Group polled Americans about the end times.  They found that 41 percent agree with the sentence, “The world is currently living in the ‘end times’ as described by prophecies in the Bible.”
This is more than a vague awareness that things are off-track; more than an ill-defined sense of looming apocalypse.  This is a specific belief that the events of our time match the Bible’s description of the end time.
2 Peter 3:10-13 says,
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.  Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, on account of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!  But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.” (NASB)
Peter asked,
“What sort of people ought you to be?”  The King James Version translates it, “What manner of persons ought ye to be?” (KJV)
Through Peter, the Holy Spirit tells the reader that the things of this world we get hung up on — money, houses, cars and other luxuries — will not last.  He’s telling us to take the long view of history.  Look at the big picture.  See your life in context — not just the context of tomorrow or next week, but of eternity.
Peter asked,
“Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be?”  Those words were hardly on the page when he began giving the answer.  “In holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God.” (2 Peter 3:11-12 NASB)
Forty-one percent believe we are in the end times as described in the Bible.  So why don’t they live “in holy conduct and godliness?”  Forty-one percent is not a majority, but it is such a large minority that mainstream advertisers would never want to offend it.  The celebration of evil that permeates American entertainment would not hold — at least not in the mainstream.
But even Christians can lose the ability to blush.  The world is falling into a pit of violent debauchery, and a large percentage of people who believe Jesus is coming soon, are following the world down.
We desperately need another Great Awakening in the United States.  That doesn’t just mean sinners being saved.  An awakening includes reformation and revival.  Christians, including the clergy, need to renew their love for God and His word — to love Him more than money, prestige, or comfort.
Hebrews gives us a great picture of how to live our lives, and then says that it is especially true for those who live in the end times.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:23-25 NKJV)
Two years ago, 41% of Americans said they could “see the Day approaching.”  So why aren’t the 41% holding fast the confession of their hope without wavering?  Why aren’t we stirring up love and good works in one another?  Why do so many forsake the assembling together of those with like faith?
I’ve spent much of my life pointing out just how near we are to “the Day.”  It’s heartening that so many Americans now agree with that basic message.  I pray that this glorious belief will begin to manifest itself in our attitudes and actions.  When that happens, we will see miracles!

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres raised concerns Thursday that a concrete dome built last century to contain waste from atomic bomb tests is leaking radioactive material into the Pacific.
Speaking to students in Fiji, Guterres described the structure on Enewetak atoll in the Marshall Islands as “a kind of coffin” and said it was a legacy of Cold War-era nuclear tests in the Pacific
“The Pacific was victimised in the past as we all know,” he said, referring to nuclear explosions carried out by the United States and France in the region.
In the Marshalls, numerous islanders were forcibly evacuated from ancestral lands and resettled, while thousands more were exposed to radioactive fallout.
The island nation was ground zero for 67 American nuclear weapons tests from 1946-58 at Bikini and Enewetak atolls, when it was under US administration.
The tests included the 1954 “Bravo” hydrogen bomb, the most powerful ever detonated by the United States, about 1,000 times bigger than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Guterres, who is touring the South Pacific to raise awareness of climate change issues, said Pacific islanders still needed help to deal with the fallout of the nuclear testing.
“The consequences of these have been quite dramatic, in relation to health, in relation to the poisoning of waters in some areas,” he said.
“I’ve just been with the President of the Marshall Islands (Hilda Heine), who is very worried because there is a risk of leaking of radioactive materials that are contained in a kind of coffin in the area.”
The “coffin” is a concrete dome, built in the late 1970s on Runit island, part of Enewetak atoll, as a dumping ground for waste from the nuclear tests.
Radioactive soil and ash from the explosions was tipped into a crater and capped with a concrete dome 45 centimetres (18 inches) thick.
However, it was only envisaged as a temporary fix and the bottom of the crater was never lined leading to fears the waste is leaching into the Pacific.
Cracks have also developed in the concrete after decades of exposure and there are concerns it could break apart if hit by a tropical cyclone.
Guterres did not directly address what should be done with the dome but said the Pacific’s nuclear history still needed to be addressed.
“A lot needs to be done in relation to the explosions that took place in French Polynesia and the Marshall Islands,” he said.
“This is in relation to the health consequences, the impact on communities and other aspects.
“Of course there are questions of compensation and mechanisms to allow these impacts to be minimised.”

By John Lysaught –
Isaiah 41:10: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
There is a great amount of anxiety floating around. We are seeing the world falling apart in front of our eyes. When we don’t think people and society can get any worse, they do. This can create fear in the hearts and minds of believers. It begs the question of why? Why are some fearing the inevitable? These things we are witnessing at an exponential pace must pass as we await being taken up to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus.
I looked up the definition of fear, and it says that fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” I fear intruders in the house. I fear for my daughter when she drives 25 miles to school every day on the highway. I don’t fear what is happening as is written in the Word as we come to the end of our time on Earth, but many do.
They are anxious about the coming end. They feel the impending doom over their heads and fear what is happening. Why? We need not have fear of what is coming. We don’t need to because God is with us, always. He will never abandon us nor will he forsake us ever, yes, even in these last days. Will our faith be tried and pressured? Yes, because that is what Satan wants – he wants us to fear because fear will drive a wedge in our relationship with Christ.
Fear creates two responses in us. We’ve all heard the term “fight or flight,” and fear will cause us to do one of these two actions. We will stand our ground or we will run away. Believers need to take the action of the former. The latter is what Satan wants. He doesn’t want us to stand against him and his ways; Satan wants us to run away and hide and leave our Lord in the rear-view mirror of our lives.
Proverbs 29:25 tells us that,
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.”
Fear will make us trip and fall and can cause us to freeze up and run away. Some won’t feel safe and assured in their lives – mind and spirit, but will seek to avoid the things that scare them. This does not need to be so because, if there is trust in the Lord as Proverbs 29:25 says, we “shall be safe.”
We are under the umbrella of God’s protection. Will bad things happen to us? Of course! We are not immune from the ills of man or society; but we need not fear in this life because, as believers, we know where we are going in death or in rapture. We will be with the Lord, not in some abyss or in hell, or nonexistent. We will be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven.
Psalm 56:3-4 tells us,
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
A lot of the fear believers face is what will happen to them in these last days, what man will or may do to them as believers. The words that come to mind are “marginalization” and “persecution.”
The marginalization of Christians in western society is real and true and happening even as I write. Society and government are bending over backwards to appease everything and everyone opposed to biblical truth. They want to push Christians out of the way for their idea of a utopian society that does not have a hint of Christianity in it, but to worship only man and what man creates as right or wrong.
Society does this by creating fear in Christians that if they don’t play ball with their evil and detestable ideals, they will be left to the wayside of life. I say great! I’d rather be hated for the truth than walk in fear of the repercussions of Satan and the society he has molded for his evil ways.
The biggest fear of some, though, is being persecuted. Though not on the mainstream media, there are persecutions, real and tangible physical persecutions of Christians in the world. They are being killed and their churches destroyed; and if they are not murdered, they are fleeing their homes to escape the persecution.
Some believers fear this will happen to us in the west. And, you know what? It is in Europe. Churches are being destroyed and believers are being persecuted for their faith in Christ. Will this continue to happen and grow and spread to other western countries? Yes, I believe it will. It is at each country’s doorstep if not already happening.
How do we deal with this fear? Trust the Lord. Look at the early church and those that faced severe persecution. Take the Apostle Paul for example. He was imprisoned and martyred for his faith. He trusted the Lord and the Lord’s will for his ministry and his life. He did die for our faith, but I don’t recall him being scared mentioned in the Bible, but he continued to be bold and write letters to the church to encourage them to be strong and have faith and not to fear.
Paul’s example should be our example today. We need not fear what will happen, or what will happen to us, but hold strong to our faith and trust in Christ Jesus. Will we be marginalized, persecuted, and pushed around for our beliefs? Yes. Will it grow in intensity as we get closer to the rapture? Yes. Will we go to Heaven if we are martyred before the rapture? Yes. Will believers be raptured before the tribulation? Yes. Will we still suffer until then? Yes. But we have Christ with us and for us; and no matter what happens to us before we are taken, we need not fear but stand strong and bold in our faith.
