USA In Bible Prophecy?…(2019)

Published on Jun 10, 2019
Matthew 24:3-14 3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all[a] these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences,[b] and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Mid-East Bible Prophecy Update – June 9, 2019

Published on Jun 10, 2019
Mid-East Bible Prophecy Update – June 9, 2019 Pastor J.D. talks about how quickly and suddenly everything can change overnight. All the signs of the last days are converging at the same time. Bible Prophecy is happening right before our eyes and like birth pains, the predicted events are happening more frequently and more intently. Never, in the history throughout the world have so many forces, including economic, scientific, techno-logic, ecologic, cultural, geopolitical, moral, spiritual and religion, converged together to bring this world that’s already teetering over the edge into the abyss, to a point of no return. Jesus said when you see all these signs happening, know that I am near, even at the door.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6)
1Cor. 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: AND THAT NO MAN CAN SAY THAT JESUS IS THE LORD, BUT BY THE HOLY GHOST.
Rev. 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth:
Luke 12:37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them
so won’t you accept Jesus now and be removed from that event and live forever with Jesus in the Family of God?
2 “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” (2nd Corinthians 2:6)

A Bible Study by Jack Kelley
Since 9/11,  it has been popular to identify Mystery Babylon as New York City.
Consider, though, the following:
  1. You can connect the Scriptural dots and come clearly and directly to Babylon in Iraq.
  2. There’s not a shred of Biblical evidence to support the New York City view.
  3. There’s no compelling reason to spiritualize the Biblical passages on the subject.
The above three points against this don’t seem to bother those in favor of this view.
The late Dr. David L. Cooper advised, “Where the plain sense of Scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense; therefore take every word at its primary, ordinary, usual, literal meaning unless the facts of the immediate text clearly indicate otherwise.” It’s come to be known as the Golden Rule of interpretation. We’ll apply it to see what the Bible says about Mystery Babylon.
The first place to look is the only place it’s mentioned, Revelation 17. There the words “Mystery Babylon the Great” appear, written on the forehead of a symbolic woman seated atop a symbolic beast with seven heads and ten horns in a vision John was given. We know they’re symbolic because in the passage the angel describing them says so, and tells us what they symbolize. This fits with Dr. Cooper’s rule.
The angel explained to John that the beast symbolized Satan, who would become the object of worship in the world and manifest himself in one we call the antichrist. The seven heads were seven hills and also seven kingdoms. Five of these had fallen when John was writing (Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, and Greece) one was currently in power (Rome) and one was still to come (hold that thought). The ten horns were ten kings who didn’t yet have a kingdom but would each receive one for the purpose of serving the antichrist and making war against the Lord. And finally, the woman was the city that in John’s time was ruling over the world.
When In Rome …
So far we have three references to Rome. It sits on seven hills, it was the kingdom currently in power, and it was the city from which the world was ruled. Most scholars accept the fact that in John’s time, when the Revelation was written, the vision of the woman on the beast represented Rome, and that’s why she was called Mystery Babylon.
(In the Greek language, the word we translate mystery literally means a revealed secret. The pagan religious system first practiced in Babylon had been transplanted to Pergamus in Biblical times (see Rev. 2:12-17) but in the 4th century AD would be merged with Christianity in Rome. That’s the secret John was revealing.)
Throughout much of church history Mystery Babylon has been a euphemism for Rome. But what about today?
The Roman Empire was never really defeated in the sense that the other ancient kingdoms were. It was split up and parts of it were overcome, but in the 300’s it was transformed into the Holy Roman Empire and for all practical purposes ruled over Europe until the 1500’s. And even after that parts of the old Roman Empire were pre-imminent in the world for a time, specifically Spain and England.
Currently the USA is the undisputed super-power, but lately, the European Union has begun challenging the USA for leadership in the world. This turn of events is particularly interesting to prophecy buffs because of
Daniel 9:26. “After the sixty-two ‘sevens, the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.”
Those of us who believe that this portion of Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy is still in the future, knowing that the Romans destroyed the city (Jerusalem) and the sanctuary (The Temple) in 70 AD, believe that it predicts a ruler emerging from a revived Roman Empire at the end of the age. This ruler is called the antichrist by most, who also see the European Union as a revival of the Roman Empire. That being the case, the kingdom described to John in Rev. 17 as the one that was still to come would be the European Union, a modern version of the Roman Empire.
When the antichrist comes to power, we believe he’ll divide the world into 10 regions and place a leader over each of them, hence the 10 kings loyal to him.
But Wait There’s More
Seeing Rome as both the 4th and 5th kingdoms of John’s vision fits with other prophecies as well. For instance, in Daniel 2&7 we’re given two views of Gentile Dominion, the time in world history when gentile powers are superior to Israel. In both, the dream Daniel interprets in Daniel 2 and his parallel vision of monsters coming out of the sea in Daniel 7, there were only four gentile kingdoms identified from Daniel’s day to the Kingdom Age. By comparing the symbolism of the visions with what we know of history, we can identify the first one as Babylon, in power when Daniel was alive having conquered both Egypt and Assyria. Then came the Medo-Persian Empire, followed by Greece and finally Rome. The only kingdom after Rome is the Kingdom of our Lord, a Kingdom that will never be defeated or given to another. So Rome is the last Gentile world power before the Lord’s return.
In Nebuchadnezzar’s dream (Daniel 2) of the huge poly-metallic statue that symbolized the four Gentile powers, the two legs of iron represent Rome’s Eastern and Western components that ultimately became the Holy Roman Empire’s Catholic and Orthodox churches. The feet and toes of iron mixed with clay stand for the End Times Revival of the Empire and signify the problems that have plagued Europe’s attempts to unite (iron and baked pottery neither mix nor adhere well) as well as the 10 regions (the toes) into which the Antichrist will divide the world. Interestingly, it was the Treaty of Rome that in 1957 gave the European Union its beginning. So the clear hints of the two incarnations of Rome have now been verified in history.
So how does all that relate to literal Babylon? Rev. 18 claims that in the final days the City of Babylon will once again be a world center for government, commerce, and religion and describes the worldwide distress caused by its destruction just before the Lord’s return. For years scholars, believing Babylon to have been destroyed long ago, searched for the modern city they believed the passage to be symbolizing, and many chose New York. But during the first Gulf War, they discovered that ancient Babylon had never been destroyed in the way the Bible describes. Further research showed that it’s been continuously inhabited since the days of Nebuchadnezzar and that Saddam Hussein had expended much effort in restoring it. More on this below.
But before we go on, let’s understand a little more about why some believe Rev 18 describes New York City. Being home to the UN it could be considered the center of world government, the New York Stock Exchange has a tremendous influence over world commerce, and of course, it’s located in the USA, the most obviously Christian nation in the world today which connects it with a major religion. And then there’s the indisputable fact that having been so richly blessed, the US certainly deserves to be judged, and New York is arguably its most prominent city.
What Makes You So Great?
Biblical scholars from other countries complain that only the arrogance of Americans causes us to look for ourselves in the Bible. Sure we’re on top now, but the US is such a newcomer on the world scene, barely over 200 years old in a history that at its most conservative estimate stretches back over 6000 years. And the battle between the city of Satan (Babylon) and the city of God (Jerusalem) had been raging for several thousand years before America was even discovered. In a nutshell, the long view of history argues persuasively for reading Rev. 18 literally. If so, how does Babylon get to be center stage again after so many centuries of obscurity?
He’s Up In The Night
In the Book of Zechariah, a series of night visions concerning the end times occupies the first six chapters. The one recorded in Zechariah 5 gives us the answer. Zechariah describes being told in this vision to inspect a large basket with a lead cover. An angel tells him the basket contains the iniquity of the people throughout the earth. When he looks inside, he sees a woman, who the angel identifies as the symbol of their wickedness. Then two other women, each with the wings of a stork, lift the basket and begin to fly away with it. (According to Lev. 11:19 storks would be able to carry this load of wickedness without becoming defiled by it because they’re already unclean.)
“Where are they taking the basket?” Zechariah asks. “To the country of Babylon,” the angel replies, “To build a house for it.” (Literally to the plains of Shinar, the location in ancient Mesopotamia of the City of Babylon). “When it’s ready, the basket will be set there in its place.” (Zech. 5:5-11). The fact that an actual physical location is given for the basket’s final destination should discourage anyone from spiritualizing that part of the passage. Again we’ve applied Dr. Cooper’s Golden Rule of interpretation.
Where Are They Coming From?
OK, so we know where the basket is going, but where will the stork-women be taking it from? According to many scholars, the woman in Zechariah’s basket is the woman from Rev. 17, Rome. At the end of the age, after all its true believers have been whisked away in the Rapture, the religious system currently headquartered in Rome will be returned to Babylon from whence it came, to be absorbed into antichrist’s one world religion. (The End Times Empire will also be absorbed, but into antichrist’s one world government, bringing the world’s political, commercial, and religious power together under one central authority.)
Zechariah’s visions followed Babylon’s defeat by the Persians. And almost from his day to ours, Babylon was a forgotten city. Although Alexander the Great later lived and died there, his plan to dredge a big harbor to lure Persian Gulf boat traffic to Babylon was never implemented. After his death, a natural harbor was found on the Tigris River and soon became the regional center of commerce Alexander had envisioned. The city that grew up around this harbor was named Baghdad. Although only about 62 miles (100 km) away, Babylon slowly faded into obscurity dwindling to as few as 10,000 inhabitants. It was never again a center for government, commerce, and religion, but neither was it ever destroyed as Revelation 17-18, Isaiah 13-14 and Jeremiah 50-51 all prophesy. These events are still in our future.
Babylon Re-born
As I indicated earlier, Saddam Hussein spent millions restoring ancient Babylon into a ceremonial city, perhaps unknowingly preparing it for its final role in world events. Since the Lord is committed to doing all that He’s promised (Isaiah 46:8-11), when the time is right, the basket symbolizing the world’s wickedness will be set in the place prepared for it on the plains of Shinar. And then the ancient City of Babylon will once again become the world headquarters for the three great evils of mankind’s design:
  1. Government: which enslaves men politically.
  2. Commerce: which enslaves us economically, and
  3. Religion: which enslaves us spiritually.
Does the City of New York deserve to be judged? Absolutely, along with the rest of America, and most of the world for that matter. But is New York the Mystery Babylon of Rev. 17-18? I hope this article has persuaded you otherwise. But to be sure, become a Berean and search the Scriptures daily to see whether these things be true. (Acts 17:11) 05-16-04

Iran’s top envoy: Netanyahu wants to destroy us, and we will respond
Iran’s foreign minister warns the US that his country will not remain passive while Israel threatens to destroy it.
He also dismisses the Trump administration’s as-yet unpublished peace plan as a “crime against the Middle East.”
“Netanyahu is threatening to destroy Iran. It can’t be that someone threatens our people without a response,” Zarif said at a press conference in Tehran alongside visiting German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.
America, Zarif charges, has declared an economic war on Iran by imposing sanctions and last year pulling out of a landmark 2015 nuclear deal.
“We were not the ones and we won’t be the ones to open any kind of war, but if someone does open one, he won’t the one to finish it,” Zarif warns.
Zarif says the US and Israel are the root cause of the problems in the Middle East and called Washington’s peace plan, which it has yet to unveil, a “crime against the Middle East,” Tasnim, an Iranian news site, reported.

Conform or die: Big Tech has become the feared Big Brother, the ultimate thought control machine
Lance D Johnson
In order to grow into the monopolies they are today, these technology companies had to provide free, readily accessible, and easy-to-use platforms. In order to do that, the companies had to sell their users out by collecting vast amounts of personal data on everyone. Forfeiting the fundamentals of privacy, these technology companies essentially forced users to consent to privacy loss in order to participate. The personal data, sold to advertisers and bad actors, can be used to exploit and manipulate the population in ways that people don’t even consciously recognize.
The giant authoritarian screen has been multiplied into millions of handheld phones, dispersed into the pockets of the obedient population. The personalization of the technology is a deception of user control because ultimately, users are only allowed to share information and espouse the beliefs that conform to the official narratives established by Big Tech and their army of content reviewers. All of Big Tech preaches conformity to official narratives or else users are banned (censored) from the platforms.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is very open about the speech rules enacted across Big Tech: “We only have one message for those who seek to push hate, division and violence. You have no place on our platforms. You have no home here.” Tim Cook’s ideas are exactly the same as the CEOs of Facebook, YouTube, Google, and Twitter. These ‘thought leaders’ and their tens of thousands of content reviewers will exclude anyone who dares challenge official narratives and leftist belief systems. This is thought control and information dictatorship.
Who decides what hate is? Who decides what division is? Why are Republican candidates like Marsha Blackburn cited for “hate speech” and taken off the platforms? Why are Trump-supporters, Diamond and Silk, segregated and banned from the platforms? Why does the conservative think-tank, PragerU, continue to face censorship of their videos? Why is the incredible reporting of independent thinker, Paul Joseph Watson, censored across social media? Why does life-saving information from NaturalNews continued to be blocked from social media platforms? The list of censored independents, libertarians, and conservatives continues to grow.
1984 is definitely here, more real than ever depicted in commercials. In 2019, it’s conform or die in the online world. If Big Tech censorship doesn’t bother you, keep on with your positive, friendly, and unifying speech. You are free to lookup information and espouse beliefs that do not rock the boat, and for that, your mind is already covertly censored and strongly controlled. If you are unwilling to admit that, then you are blinded by your manipulators, just as the Apple’s 1984 commercial depicts.

Internet Free Speech All but Dead – Global ResearchGlobal Research
By Philip Giraldi
The Internet was originally promoted as a completely free and uncensored mechanism for people everywhere to exchange views and communicate, but it has been observed by many users that that is not really true anymore. Both governments and the service providers have developed a taste for controlling the product, with President Barack Obama once considering a “kill switch“ that would turn off the Internet completely in the event of a “national emergency.”
Social networking sites have voluntarily employed technical fixes that restrict some content and have also hired “reviewers” who look for objectionable material and remove it. Pending European legislation, meanwhile, might require Internet search engines to eliminate access to many unacceptable old posts. YouTube has already been engaged in deleting existing old material and is working with biased “partners” like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to set up guidelines to restrict future content. Many users of Facebook will have already undoubtedly noted that some contacts have been blocked temporarily (or even permanently) and denied access to the site.
Google now automatically disables or limits searches for material that it deems to be undesirable. If Google does not approve of something it will either not appear in search results or it will be very low on the list. And what does come up will likely favor content that derives from those who pay Google to promote their products or services. Information that originates with competitors will either be very low in the search results or even blocked. Google is consequently hardly an unbiased source of information.
The Ron Paul Institute (RPI) website posts much of its material on YouTube (owned by Google) on a site where there had been advertising that kicked back to RPI a small percentage of the money earned. Suddenly, without explanation, both the ads and rebate were eliminated after a “manual review” determined the content to be “unsuitable for all advertisers.” This was a judgment rendered apparently due to disapproval of what the institute does and says. The ability to comment on and link from the pieces was also turned off.
Dissident British former diplomat Craig Murray also noted in April 2018 the secretive manipulation of his articles that are posted on Facebook, observing that his “site’s visitor numbers [were] currently around one-third normal levels, stuck at around 20,000 unique visitors per day. The cause [was] not hard to find. Normally over half of our visitors arrive via Facebook. These last few days, virtually nothing has come from Facebook. What is especially pernicious is that Facebook deliberately imposes this censorship in a secretive way.
More recently, pressure to censor Internet social networking and information sites has increased, coming both from government and from various interested constituencies. In late May, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss how to eliminate “hate speech” on the Internet.
The two men agreed that the United States Internet model, in spite of already being heavily manipulated, is too laissez faire, and expressed an interest in exploring the French system where it is considered acceptable to ban unacceptable points of view. Zuckerberg suggested that it might serve as a good model for the entire European Union. France is reportedly considering legislation that establishes a regulator with power to fine Internet companies up to 4% of their global revenue, which can in some cases be an enormous sum, if they do not curb hateful expressions.
So unelected, unnamed censors are operating all around the Internet to control the content, which I suppose should surprise no one, and the interference will only get worse as both governments and service providers are willing to do what it takes to eliminate views that they find unacceptable—which, curiously enough, leads one to consider how “Russiagate” came about and the current hysteria being generated in the conventional media and also online against both Venezuela and Iran. How much of the anger is essentially fake, being manipulated or even fabricated by large companies that earn mega billions of dollars by offering under false pretenses a heavily managed product that largely does what the government wants? Banning hate speech will be, unfortunately, only the first step in eliminating any and all criticisms of the status quo.

This Ebola Warning By Experts Should Be Taken Seriously
On June 4, 2019 the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Global Health held a hearing on the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has infected more than 2,020 people with a death toll of over 1,300. The witnesses at the hearing were USAID Acting Assistant Administrator, Tim Ziever, and CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield. (The entire hearing is embedded within the article)
Recent reporting from Center of Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota, quotes Mike Ryan, an MD and a WHO assistant director-general, using World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, says that those numbers could be significantly higher because WHO “estimates it is detecting 75% of cases, with as many as 25% missed or being picked up “too late.”
The one hour 23 minute hearing offered an update on the U.S. government response efforts, Ebola vaccine availability, including that they are running out, lessons learned from previous outbreaks, and some additional statistics and facts we haven’t seen widely reported.
Some key points made between the two witnesses include the differences between the previous Ebola outbreaks and this latest one which was officially declared an emergency in August 2018, but actually started over a year ago, according to Ziever.
One of those disturbing differences is that the average outbreak length from previous years was just four months, compared to this one that has lasted over a year, despite the “official” date being August 2018, and Ziever is very clear in saying the situation is “worsening” and Ebola cases will “continue to rise.”
One key quote that caught my attention was when Ziever asserted “The scope of this bio-security threat is changing, and the risk of the virus leaping the border to other countries is very high.”
That in conjunction with the CDC Director’s testimony later in the hearing where he said the risk to the U.S. from the approximate 43 people a day from the Congo that travel to the United States is very low, should the virus cross the borders into other countries, as Ziever asserted it likely would, then that risk rises considerably.
The 43 people traveling to the U.S. a day from that part of the world, are those traveling legally and can be set up in a system where they “self-monitor” for the first symptom of Ebola, a fever,” in case they were still in the incubation period when first evaluated entering the country, but recent reports from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, shows us the dangers are those coming illegally.
DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station apprehended a large group of 116 individuals Thursday.
“Large groups present a unique challenge for the men and women of the Del Rio Sector,” said Chief Raul Ortiz. “This large group from Africa further demonstrates the complexity and severity of the border security and humanitarian crisis at our Southwest border.”
Agents performing line watch operations apprehended the group after they illegally crossed the Rio Grande into the U.S. around 10:30 p.m.
This is the first large group apprehended in the Del Rio Sector and the first large group of people from Africa – including nationals from Angola, Cameroon and Congo – apprehended on the Southwest border this year.
Agents have encountered 182 large groups of more than 100 individuals across the Southwest border so far this fiscal year.

Facebook bans Natural News; Health Ranger responds with message for humanity
by: Mike Adams
In response to a coordinated, heavily-funded smear campaign against Natural News and myself, the Health Ranger, Facebook has now permanently banned Natural News from posting content. The channel name that has been banned is, which was our primary channel reaching over 2.5 million people.
This is on top of the permanent bans of Natural News content from Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Google News, Apple and other techno-fascists that now represent the greatest threat to human freedom the world has ever seen.
The techno-fascists, including Wikipedia, have decided that no speech that questions any official narrative will be allowed on any platform. Anyone who questions the safety of toxic vaccines, 5G cell towers, geoengineering, chemotherapy or glyphosate weed killer chemicals is now maliciously attacked, smeared and de-platformed. You’re not even allowed now to talk about nutrition, anti-cancer foods or nutritional supplements without being labeled a “vitamin” website accused of pushing fake cures. (That’s right: The left-wing authoritarian tyrants are now anti-nutrition on top of everything else.)
Every website or individual who expresses any view of dissent against the corrupt scientific establishment is immediately labeled “fake news,” even as the left-wing media routinely pushed total fabrications about President Trump and anyone who supports Trump.
As I have repeatedly pointed out, the tech giants and their CEOs are truly enemies of humanity.
Remember: As all this censorship is taking place, the tech giants somehow claim they aren’t censoring anyone at all. They claim to have a monopoly on “facts” or “truth” and proclaim themselves to have the King’s unique right to decide who gets to speak and who must be silenced. These criminals like Zuckerberg, Dorsey and Cook are un-elected, subject to zero transparency and offer no mechanism for due process whereby channels who are banned might defend themselves against unfair, dishonest smears or fake news attacks run by left-wing journo-terrorism hacks.
In essence, the entire internet is now run by the most lawless evil war criminals imaginable, and they have zero respect for human rights, human dignity or free speech.
I have posted a video response to the Facebook ban on, the video platform we created following YouTube’s de-platforming of natural health and conservative channels.

The story is heartbreaking beyond words. It is terribly sad, tragic, agonizing.
When you read it, you’ll wish you could somehow turn back the clock and change the final outcome. But it’s too late for that. All we can do is mourn a lost life—and sound the alarm.
What else can we say or do when a physically healthy, 17-year-old girl in the Netherlands chooses to be euthanized because of severe depression and emotional pain?
As reported by Gateway Pundit, this past Sunday, Noa Pothoven was euthanized after battling “with depression after being molested as a young child.”
She posted on Instragram the day before she died that she was “still breathing, but no longer alive.”
All we can do is mourn a lost life—and sound the alarm.
She wrote: “I get straight to the point: within a maximum of 10 days I will die. After years of fighting and fighting it is finished. I have now stopped eating and drinking for a while, and after many conversations and reviews it has been decided that I will be released because my suffering is unbearable. It’s finished. I have not really been alive for so long, I survive, and not even that.”
Did I say this story was heartbreaking?
First, we cannot overstate the devastating damage caused by sexual abuse, especially when the victim is a minor. It can totally destroy someone’s life, leading to depression, substance abuse, self-harm (including suicide), or deviant and destructive forms of behavior.
Although I am not a professional counselor, I have heard scores of stories from childhood victims of sexual abuse, some of them unbearably painful just to hear, let alone to experience.
In the late 1990’s, a blind 16-year-old girl explained to me how she became blind. It began with being sexual abused as a child, causing her so much pain that she became a drug user. But the drugs could not heal her wounds, so she and her boyfriend made a death pact, persuading another friend to shoot them both in the head. (I have to hold back tears as I write.)
The friend succeeded in killing her boyfriend. She, however, survived the gunshot to the brain, only to be left blind, adding to her agony. (The friend, of course, went to jail for his actions.)
Thankfully, this young woman had come to know Jesus in a personal way and had found a ray of hope. Otherwise, her story, like the story of millions of other victims of abuse, would still be dark and hopeless.
As for the teen who chose to end her life in the Netherlands, the New York Post reports that she was “sexually abused at 11 and raped three years later,” and this was the cause of her “unbearable” pain.
We dare not criticize her for the decision to end her life, especially in a culture that allows physically healthy children as young as 12 to choose euthanasia as long as they parental consent and a doctor’s recommendation.
Obviously, in her mind, she was fighting a losing battle against her pain and saw no possible way of escape. And the only difference between Noa and thousands of other young people who commit suicide is that she chose to do so through a government system. But it is that system that must be criticized.
It is a system that does not rally around a victim and say, “One way or another, we will find a way to help you. One way or another we will help you to get to the route of your agony and find a lasting cure.”
Instead, the system says, “If you are deeply depressed and utterly hopeless, the solution is death. All your troubles will go away.”
Is this how we treat human life? Do we put people to sleep, like dogs and horses, because their emotional pain is deemed insufferable?
CBS News reported in August, 2017 that, “Euthanasia has become a common way to die in the Netherlands, accounting for 4.5 percent of deaths, according to researchers who say requests are increasing from people who aren’t terminally ill.
“In 2002, the Netherlands became the first country in the world that made it legal for doctors to help people die. Both euthanasia, where doctors actively kill patients, and assisted suicide, where physicians prescribe patients a lethal dose of drugs, are allowed. People must be ‘suffering unbearably’ with no hope of relief—but their condition does not have to be fatal.”
The CBS article cites Scott Kim, a bioethicist at the U.S. National Institutes of Health who raised concerns about the growing trend towards euthanasia.
“These are old people who may have health problems, but none of them are life-threatening. They’re old, they can’t get around, their friends are dead and their children don’t visit anymore. This kind of trend cries out for a discussion. Do we think their lives are still worthwhile?”
All the more must we ask questions about the meaning (and value) of life when it is a young person choosing euthanasia. Was there really no better solution than physician-assisted suicide?
There is, of course, the gospel answer, and it is one in which all things are possible with God, in which hope springs eternal, in which Jesus heals the brokenhearted.
But there is also a societal answer which says to someone like Noa, “We care about you too much as friends and family to let you die.”
And that’s where we here in America need to stand back and do some serious soul searching, as more and more states open the door to euthanasia.
Just this week the Maine Legislature voted to legalize assisted suicide.
The bill now goes to Democratic Gov. Janet Mills, who has 10 days to act on the bill and has not indicated whether she will let it become law. Her office said she has not yet taken a position.
If Mills signs it, Maine would join seven other states, including New Jersey this year, and Washington, D.C., with similar laws, according to the Death With Dignity National Center and the Death With Dignity Political Fund.
Maine’s bill would allow doctors to prescribe terminally ill people a fatal dose of medication. The bill declares that obtaining or administering life-ending medication is not suicide under state law. Still, it effectively legalizes it.
Let us look into the eyes of this 17-year-old whose life was first marred and destroyed and then taken away prematurely. And let us ask ourselves, is this what we want for our country? Are we sure?
As for those who were close to Noa, may they look to the Lord to find meaning and purpose and hope in the midst of their tragic loss. Perhaps there can be something redemptive about her story.

On April 25, the terrified residents of the Christian village of Jifna near Ramallah asked the P.A. to protect them after they were attacked by Muslim gunmen. The violence erupted after a woman from the village submitted a complaint to P.A. police that the son of a prominent, Fatah-affiliated leader had attacked her family.
In response, dozens of Fatah gunmen came to the village, fired hundreds of bullets in the air, threw fire bombs, shouted curses and caused severe damage to public property. It was a miracle there were no dead or wounded.
Despite the residents’ cries for help, the P.A. police did not intervene during the mayhem—which lasted for hours. They have not arrested any suspects. Interestingly, the rioters called on the residents to pay jizya—a head tax that was levied throughout history on non-Muslim minorities under Islamic rule. The most recent victims of the jizya were the Christian communities of Iraq and Syria under Islamic State rule.
The second incident occurred during the night of May 13. Vandals broke into a church of the Maronite community in the center of Bethlehem, desecrated it, and stole expensive equipment belonging to the church, including the security cameras.
Three days later it was the turn of the Anglican church in the village of Aboud, west of Ramallah. Vandals cut through the fence, broke the windows of the church, and broke in. They desecrated it and stole a great deal of equipment.
As in the two previous incidents, no suspects were arrested.
According to its Facebook page, this is the sixth time the Maronite church in Bethlehem has been subjected to acts of vandalism and theft, including an arson attack in 2015 that caused considerable damage and forced the church to close for a lengthy period.
However, even though P.A. leader Mahmoud Abbas himself was present on December 24, 2018, at the party to mark the church’s reopening after it was renovated, the arson and other to acts of rioting and vandalism over the years received no coverage in the Palestinian media. In fact, a full gag order was imposed in many cases.
It is unlikely that the latest wave of attacks will lead to the arrest, let alone prosecution, of any suspects. The only thing that interests the P.A. is that events of this kind not be leaked to the media.
Fatah regularly exerts heavy pressure on Christians not to report the acts of violence and vandalism they frequently suffer, as such publicity could damage the P.A.’s image as an actor capable of protecting the lives and property of the Christian minority under its rule.
Even less does the P.A. want to be depicted as a radical entity that persecutes religious minorities. That image could have negative repercussions for the massive international, and particularly European, aid the P.A. receives.
Though the Christians in the P.A. avoid saying so publicly, many of them fear—with good reason—that Muslim aggression against them will only escalate. Such fears are all the stronger in light of the thunderous silence of the Western (and Israeli) media in the face of the Christian minority’s ongoing disappearance from the P.A. and Islamic lands in general—in striking contrast to the growth, prosperity and increasing integration of the Christian community in Israel proper.
The Christians of the Western world must demand that the P.A. arrest the suspects in the latest attacks and begin guarding the Christian places of worship under its rule. The ongoing international neglect of the plight of the Christians under P.A. rule can only lead to the vanishing of Christianity from the very place where it first emerged.

In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; turn your ear to me and save me. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.
Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of evil and cruel men. For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth. From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother’s womb. I will ever praise you. I have become like a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge. My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long.
Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone. For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together. They say, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.” Be not far from me, O God; come quickly, O my God, to help me.
May my accusers perish in shame; may those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace. But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure.
I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone. Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.
Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, you who have done great things. Who, O God, is like you? Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again. I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.
My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I, whom you have redeemed. My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion.
Although there’s no Biblical precedent for such ideas, some believers expect that since they’ve come to the Lord, they should never experience difficulty again. Others assume that if a believer is going through turmoil, it must be because of some punishment the Lord is dishing out, and therefore he’s getting what he deserves.
As for the first, the operative verse is John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
I don’t believe the Lord was speaking only to His disciples here, but through them to us. The world we live in is an evil place, under the control of the evil one. (1 John 5:19) No believer is automatically immune from accident or illness, injustice or persecution. What we are promised is that we can be healed from our infirmities (Isaiah 53:4-5), that Jesus is continuously interceding for us to help us through difficult times (Romans 8:34), and that if things get too bad He’ll show us the way out (1 Cor. 10:13).
For example, it would have been an easy thing for the Lord to have protected Paul from the beatings he took in almost every city he visited, and as we’re told in 2 Cor. 12 Paul repeatedly asked for just that. But the Lord knew that by supernaturally healing Paul after each beating, his testimony would be that much more powerful, and so He said,
“My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Cor. 12:9)
and healed him each time he was injured. For Paul that settled the issue, and he was at peace with it.
And as for the second, we can’t be punished for past sins because
if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Cor, 5:17)
Concerning the present and future ones, God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Cor. 5:21) Having paid the price for all our sins, past, present and future, God now views us as being as righteous as He is. When we sin, we simply confess and He Who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) It’s as if we’ve never sinned.
But in quoting Proverbs 3:11-12 the writer of Hebrews said,
the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son. (Hebr. 12:6)
Is this in conflict with the 2nd Corinthians passages? I believe Paul authored both letters, so if there is a conflict it either means Paul changed his mind or was talking about two different things.
Turns out it’s the latter. In 2nd Corinthians 5 Paul was addressing the security of our salvation. After you’re saved, there’s no sin you can commit that will disqualify you, because the cross permits God to see you now as you will be after He’s perfected you, as sinless as He is, no longer subject to punishment. In Hebrews 12 he’s talking about the Holy Spirit working to improve the quality of your life here on Earth.
The primary meaning of the Greek word translated discipline here is “to train”, and it’s from a root that means “child.” It refers to the education of children. The word translated punish also describes a father training his children, and while in the Bible it’s most often used to describe the brutal beating Jesus took at the hands of the Roman soldiers, there’s no Biblical basis for comparing that to the training of our children. More likely, the Holy Spirit chose the word to show us that this too was a case of a Father chastising His Son, intended to teach by example the kind of punishment we deserve for our sins against God.
In any case, the conclusion of the statement is found in verse 11.
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. (Hebr. 12:11)
In both John’s gospel and the Letter to the Hebrews the Lord’s stated purpose is to bring peace to the believer’s heart. Jesus promised us the peace that comes from knowing that “this too shall pass,” and that we’ll emerge victoriously because our Lord has overcome the evil of this world. The Letter to the Hebrews shows that the training we receive at the hands of the Lord is also meant to bring us peace.
Between these two promises we’ve covered both the coincidental hardships we endure and the specific training the Lord provides, and the intended result in both cases is peace. If you’re going through a difficult time, pray for the peace that was promised you. If you know someone else who is, pray that they’ll find their peace. Above all, follow Paul’s advice to the Philippians.
Be fearful of nothing, pray about everything, and be thankful for anything. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:4-7)
